At BacWaterDirect, we aim to keep product expectations clear and straightforward. This 3D Printed Products Policy explains what to expect when ordering a product manufactured using 3D printing, including production times, finish, tolerances, defects, returns, and related matters.
1. What 3D Printed Products Are
Some products sold by us may be manufactured using additive manufacturing (3D printing), either to order or in small batches.
Because 3D printed items are produced layer by layer, minor visual and dimensional variation can occur between units. Unless otherwise stated, this may include visible layer lines, minor surface texture, slight seam or support-removal marks, and small colour or finish variation.
These characteristics are normal features of the manufacturing process and are not, by themselves, defects, provided the item remains of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described.
2. Production and Lead Times
Some 3D printed products may be made to order rather than held as dispatch-ready stock.
Where a product is made to order, any estimated production time, dispatch window, or availability notice shown on the product page, at checkout, or in order communications is an estimate only.
Lead times may vary due to print duration, order volume, post-processing requirements, material availability, quality control checks, machine maintenance, courier delays, or events beyond our reasonable control.
Placing an order for a made-to-order or back-ordered 3D printed item does not guarantee immediate dispatch. A contract between you and us is formed only when we accept your order and dispatch the goods.
3. Finish, Appearance, and Tolerances
We make reasonable efforts to ensure that product descriptions, images, and specifications are accurate.
However:
- images are for illustration only;
- colours may appear differently depending on screen settings;
- exact shade, finish, and surface texture may vary between print runs or material batches;
- minor dimensional variation may occur within the tolerance reasonably expected of the manufacturing process; and
- slight differences may exist between photographs, renders, prototypes, and the final printed item.
Minor cosmetic characteristics that do not materially affect the item’s intended use or description will not normally be treated as faults.
4. Faulty, Damaged, or Incorrect Items
If your 3D printed product arrives faulty, damaged, broken, materially warped, incomplete, or not as described, please contact us within 48 hours of delivery or within a reasonable time after discovering the issue.
Please include:
- your order number;
- a description of the issue; and
- clear photographs where relevant.
We may ask for additional information before approving a refund, replacement, partial refund, or another appropriate resolution. Nothing in this policy affects your statutory rights under UK consumer law.
5. What Is Not Normally Treated as a Defect
The following will not normally be treated as defects on their own where the item is otherwise usable and substantially as described:
- minor layer lines or surface texture;
- small seam lines or support-contact marks;
- slight colour, sheen, or finish variation;
- minor cosmetic blemishes from post-processing; or
- small dimensional variation that does not materially affect fit or function.
Where a product has a functional issue, significant structural weakness, material cracking, incorrect dimensions beyond reasonable expectation, or a finish materially different from the description, we will assess the matter in line with this policy and your statutory rights.
6. Change-of-Mind Cancellations and Bespoke Orders
Where a 3D printed item is a standard, non-personalised product, cancellations and change-of-mind returns are handled in line with our Shipping, Returns & Refunds Policy and Terms & Conditions.
Where a 3D printed item is made to your specification, personalised, or otherwise produced as a genuine bespoke item, the usual distance-selling cancellation right may not apply. This does not apply merely because an item is produced after you place your order; the relevant question is whether the goods are genuinely made to your specification or personalised.
If you wish to cancel a bespoke or made-to-order 3D printed item, please contact us as soon as possible. If production has not yet started, we may be able to cancel the order and issue a refund. If production has already started or the item has already been dispatched, cancellation may no longer be possible.
7. Returns of 3D Printed Products
Before sending any 3D printed item back, you must contact us first to request return instructions.
Returned items must be unused and returned in their original condition unless they are faulty, damaged, or not as described.
Unless the return is due to our error or the item is faulty, damaged, or not as described, you are responsible for the cost of returning the goods to us. We recommend using a tracked delivery service, as we are not responsible for return parcels lost in transit.
We may refuse or reduce a refund where permitted by law if returned goods show signs of use beyond what is necessary to inspect them, are returned incomplete, or have been altered after delivery.
8. Use, Care, and Suitability
3D printed products may not perform in the same way as injection-moulded, machined, or metal parts.
Unless expressly stated otherwise on the product page, our 3D printed items are not represented as being suitable for safety-critical, load-bearing, medical, food-contact, high-temperature, or chemically aggressive environments.
It is your responsibility to ensure that the product is suitable for your intended application before use. We are not responsible for damage caused by misuse, improper installation, over-tightening, modification, exposure to excessive heat, UV, solvents, impact, or normal wear and tear.
9. Refunds and Replacements
Where a 3D printed item is confirmed to be faulty, damaged, or not as described, we may offer one of the following, depending on the circumstances:
- a replacement;
- a refund;
- a partial refund; or
- another appropriate resolution.
Any approved refund will be made to the original payment method used at checkout. Once approved, refunds are usually processed within 10 business days, although your bank or payment provider may take additional time to show the refunded amount.
10. Contact Us
